How to put together one snazzy retirement uniform
Today is a special day. I went to Walmart to replace two essential elements of my retirement uniform: slippers and sweatpants.
Actually, I’m a bit late in completing this chore since I’ve been retired for eleven years and my typical mileage for such items is ten years. (Your mileage may vary.)
My current sweats and slippers are showing their age which is not that surprising since I’ve worn them just about every day for the last decade. In fact, my wife has often encouraged me of late to replace those “God-awful slippers” and those “hole-filled sweatpants.”
I think that most men my age can relate to this dilemma. Sure, the present items look disgusting and are basically falling apart but they have been fully broken in and have reached their optimum comfort level. By any objective measure, it’s time to replace them but there’s no guarantee the new replacements will be as comfortable, at least not for the first year or two.
Luckily for me, Walmart is as averse to change as me and thus had basically the same selection of sweatpants they did eleven years ago when I first retired and outfitted my original uniform. Today I purchased the same navy blue, cotton blend pair with generous elastic waistband for $15 that I…
