The most depressing thing about getting older is this:

Forget about gray hair, wrinkles, failing eyesight and aching backs. Forget about hearing issues, menopause, sagging body parts and incontinence.

You can live with those things. Just spend all your time at the doctor to fix them. Let’s face it. Older people keep doctors in business. And hairdressers!

The doctor’s eyes light up when they see us coming. They love us. The hairdressers are our best friends.

It’s not about losing teeth, although that’s a close second. And it’s a horrible second. It’s the stuff nightmares are made of.

It’s not about dementia. Because if you have that, you’ll forget that you are older and won’t care.

The worst thing about getting older is something we face every day. All of us will encounter it at one time or another.

There are hints. They’ll throw you a 60th birthday party, with huge inflated numbers that scream to the world of your advanced age.

People will start asking you when you plan to retire. They are tired of seeing your lined face and sensible shoes showing up every day.
