What is The Best State in the U.S. to Retire To?
The answer is not what you may think
I am addicted to reading articles on the best places to retire. In fact, my wife and I moved to Green Valley, Arizona, because of one such article. This morning, I read another titled: Best and worst states to retire in America, based on a new report from Bankrate.com.
According to Bankrate, the best state to retire to is Delaware. However, I disagree strongly!
In my opinion, there is no best state for retirement.
The Criteria and Why They Are Irrelevant
According to Bankrate, they looked at five important criteria for retirees. Their criteria included:
Affordability (40%)
Over-all Well-being (25%)
Cost and Quality of Healthcare (20%)
Weather (10%)
Crime (5%)
These five would undoubtedly be important, but they are irrelevant on a statewide basis. To better understand this, let’s look at Arizona, the state my wife and I moved to.
