What To Wear, up in The Air
Suggestions for seniors & others — from a recent trip abroad
What I wish I’d brought with me
I like to be prepared. Heading abroad for the first time in many years, I did some research, watched dozens of videos on TSA procedures, luggage requirements for United Airlines and Lufthansa, what I should wear, what I shouldn’t, what to pack, all the good stuff.
I’d be doing a lot of hiking and walking on this trip. After some more research, I purchased some top-rated hiking pants and splurged on those elastic shoelaces you don’t need to tie, in case I needed to take them off while going through security.
“Even with TSA-Precheck, you never know,” one YouTuber advised. “Always be prepared to remove your shoes, anytime. One airport may wave you through, but the next one could require all kinds of restrictions and you might even miss your flight.”
So, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That’s comforting — not.
But I drew the line at compression socks. After all, I was in good shape, exercising every day, and lifting weights. Compression socks were for people with circulation problems, cardiac issues, and/or edema. I didn’t need those.
