When I Die, I Have No Idea What’s Going to Happen to Me

But I do know what’s going to happen to my money

I’m turning 70 this November, and its become clear to me that, shockingly, I’m not going to live forever. What am I going to do about that? I’m going to respond to Crow’s Feet’s recent writing prompt about estate planning:

Do you have any end-of-life documents prepared?

You bet I have! I’m a retired lawyer. I’d be ashamed not to.

Have you had these documents for a while, or did you create them recently?

I’ve had end-of-life documents in place since I became a parent 35 years ago.

Do you revise your final preparation documents often?

I revise them whenever a life event makes that necessary. After I divorced, for instance, I decided that leaving everything to my ex-husband was no longer a good idea. I’m currently in the process of revising my will to make sure that my daughter-in-law and grandchildren are included.

Have you told loved ones what your documents include, or have you kept that information to yourself?
