As I’ve gotten older, I’m relying more and more on proven wisdom to keep me going. Here are a few that work for me.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Unless the tree is over the hill.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
But if you can’t find your reading glasses, you’re out of luck.

Beggars can’t be choosy.
But some are if you give them food instead of money.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Just take a magnesium pill if apples aren’t available.

Blood is thicker than water.
Unless you mix the water with Metamucil.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
So, deodorant is not an option?

Every cloud has a silver lining.
Especially in Florida before it rains.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Who wants to travel that far at our age?

Rome wasn’t built in a day.
From all the scaffolding I saw, it still isn’t completely built.
