Before we tie a bow on September, we’d like to share some highlights from this past month:

Crunchyroll Expo is a Wrap!

We wrapped our second annual Crunchyroll Expo over Labor Day weekend, painting the San Jose Convention Center and surrounding area orange. Our big event featured over 250 artists, over 60 special guests, and more than 135 panels and premieres. We’re already planning for year three and can’t wait to share more of what we have in store!

#ChildhoodingwithVRV

In our last post, we shared our internal celebration of our new NickSplat channel on VRV. We recently created an external activation, kicking off The Childhooding Zone in Santa Monica — an experiential activation featuring a stocked cereal bar, all the best Saturday morning cartoons in our inflatable lounge, and a giant marshmallow cereal bowl for the selfies of your 90s dreams. If you’re heading to New York Comic-Con this year, you can check out our next stop at VRV HQ!

Talking Originals in Ottawa

Earlier this week, we participated in our first Ottawa International Animation Festival, to talk about our new Originals efforts through Ellation Studios. Animation Magazine published a great article about our session, To Be or Not to Be Original Content: Anime Edition.

Awards!

We also had some exciting news on the awards front — Crunchyroll was nominated for The Cynopsis Digital Model D Awards, which honor the companies who have pushed the boundaries in the digital media space. Crunchyroll is a finalist in the Best Digital Consumer Brand category, and winners will be announced on Friday, November 9 in New York City.

Additionally, season two of the Crunchyroll series “Anime Crimes Division” was nominated for two Streamy Awards: Best Comedy Series and Best Acting in a Comedy for SungWon Cho. The series, which was created in collaboration with YouTube creators RocketJump focuses on detectives Joe Fuyara and Diesel as they solve a series of anime-inspired crimes taking place in Neo Otaku City. The newest season premiered September 7 on RocketJump’s YouTube channel, and on Crunchyroll. Winners will be announced at the 8th Annual Streamy Awards on Monday, October 22. Feel free to tune in next month to see if we win at YouTube.com/Streamys

A Big Thank You!

We started this post talking about Crunchyroll Expo, and we’ll book-end with his image from the event — a big THANK YOU to all of our fans who came out! Enjoy the last bit of September, and we’ll be back for more soon!
