We’ve had many seasonal launches for all of our brands this past month. We asked a few of our team members what they were looking forward to and what excites them about some of our new content on Crunchyroll, VRV and Rooster Teeth. Here’s what they have to say:

Crunchyroll

Black Clover

Wyman Jung — Senior Brand Manager

“If you love shonen, then you should definitely be watching Black Clover! It may have some familiar themes found in other anime and the main character, Asta, may have rubbed some people the wrong way in the beginning, but I strongly urge you to give it another chance if you aren’t watching already. Black Clover has very strong character development and you get to learn about the misfits that make up the Black Bulls squad. The theme that really stands out is the idea of family and how a mismatched group of characters come together to fight evil and support each other no matter what. Not giving up is Asta magic and you should not give up on Black Clover!”

The Promised Neverland

Judith Pi — Brand Manager

“It’s been many years since an extremely noteworthy anime has come overseas to the West, and I think The Promised Neverland is definitely one of them. Emma is an orphan, and along with her “siblings” Norman, Ray, and the other orphans at Grace Field House, she must escape the confines or risk becoming food for horrific monsters that oversee the production of these children as “livestock.” The emotional journey of these kids will throw any viewer for a psychologically thrilling ride, and we get to experience the innocent love, teamwork, and bone-chilling fears that shake out the best (or the worst) in people when they are faced with potentially catastrophic consequences.”

The Rising of the Shield Hero

Andrea Ramirez — Title Marketing Crunchyroll

“Who doesn’t dream of getting sucked into a fantasy world where all of your greatest fantasies come true? The Rising of the Shield Hero takes that idea and shows us what it would be like to be transported to a world where those fantasies become more like something of a nightmare. An inventive series with a rich world full of characters who have turned their back on our Shield Hero after being framed for a crime he didn’t commit, he’s abandoned with nothing but a shield, no way to fight, and no one to trust.”

Mob Psycho 100 II

Caleb Goellner — Copywriter and Corporate Marketing Strategist

“Mob Psycho subverts Shonen tropes to communicate the horrifying power and haunting loneliness of being special during the time of one’s life where the only thing you want is to fit in. It’s all of the raw emotion of your teenage years x 100, framed by themes of the genuine kindness that lurks under the surface of every conflict if you’re brave enough to look for it.”

Rooster Teeth

gen:LOCK

Jennifer Tidwell — 3D Animation Associate Producer at Rooster Teeth

“gen:LOCK doesn’t just have big names, everything about it is done on a grand scale. The story, visuals and the audio are all awe-inspiring — even as someone who sees the show come together day by day, nothing compares to seeing a completed episode onscreen. Whether it’s the characters in their smaller moments together, or the top-notch action the season has in store, you don’t need to be a fan of the mech genre to find something to latch onto.”

HIDIVE

Bang Dream Season 2

Ellation Team Member

“Bangdori’s (Bang Dream) outstanding writing deserves everyone’s attention. It will expand the way you see the idol world and hopefully impress upon you that no matter our lot in life we all want to be loved, respected and accepted for who we are and we all have gifts to share with the world. It is a believable story with the perfect amount of humor, lovable characters, good music and just the right amount of heart.”

Boomerang

Care Bears: Unlock the Magic — available on VRV on 2/4

Arda Sitiprawet — Content Operations Associate

“The reason why I feel like I might watch the new Care Bears show is that I really like the change in animation style. The new art looks very fresh and clean and all the characters are very cute! Just from what I saw from the first episode, the show does seem a bit more mature than the previous versions, similar to the humor of “The Amazing World of Gumball,” but not as random. Also, I like that its targeting more towards the “adventure into the unknown” story line instead of a “day in a life” type story.”

Shudder

Horror Noire — available on VRV on 2/7

Preston Carr — Graphic Designer at Ellation

“Jordan Peele discusses black horror in “Horror Noire” and I believe black films tend to hold a mirror up to society in a very unique way. Often times pointing out the inequality that we see in our society. Taking that perspective and mixing it with horror is very intriguing and needs to be explored more.”
