I joined this company last fall following 10 years as an executive at Google and YouTube. While there, we were just beginning to see the premium digital space transform, with new brands and services emerging at a regular pace. Having participated directly in the first wave of online video at YouTube, I strongly believe we are still very early in the evolution of digital media distribution and consumption.

That’s why I think that there couldn’t be a more exciting time to build new brands, new technology and new content around premium video experiences. I’m excited to introduce you to the new name of our company:

Ellation.

Ellation evolved from the words constellation and elation. Inspired byconstellation, we align groups of great content brands and programmers with passionate superfan communities. From elation, we endeavor to delight users. We believe deeply in premium video and see opportunities to create a more sustainable direct-to-consumer business model for content creators and programmers.

You’ve already seen the first iteration of our vision through our existing services, Crunchyroll and Creativebug. Crunchyroll, the foundation of Ellation and our biggest property to date, brings thousands of hours of anime content ‘simulcast’ from Japan to passionate fans across the world. Crunchyroll has grown to more than 600,000 paying subscribers and millions of free users, across more than 160 countries. Crunchyroll users experience the brand across nearly every distribution platform: web, mobile, all leading game consoles and internet-connected entertainment devices.

We are hard at work building something new at Ellation that we think could further transform the landscape by bringing better content experiences to passionate fans and communities. Ellation is positioned at the forefront of the direct-to-consumer, over-the-top premium subscription model that is transforming the media industry. While I can’t say more now, I’m excited to start sharing details, as we get closer to launch.

Last, to make our vision a reality, we’re investing heavily in product, engineering, and business development. We’ve pulled together a great team of folks from Google, YouTube, Hulu, Amazon, Rovi and others. But, we’re still looking for smart, talented, passionate individuals to join the Ellation team across product, engineering, design, marketing, content partnerships & other functions.
