Why did it feel like she was eating popcorn at the movies, when Lex got out of his car and faced Bear? Bear as usual was not even slightly phased by Lex.
Both men had hurt her so much in the past — in this very diner at that. But now she watched them both like she was watching the climax on a movie screen.
“I am coming back for my lady and you can go now. You dumped her here didn’t you?” Lex sneered.
Bear laughed and Edie recognized that as the kind of laugh he gave before he clocked someone. She grabbed Bear’s hand, Lex laughed.
“I said I came back,” Lex said, taking Edie’s other hand.
“Lex!” she cried. “I am not a doll you can throw down and pick back up again! For Bear either. I am going home — alone.”
Edie dropped both of their hands and walked to her popcorn-yellow convertible.
