100 Word Challenge, Ephemeral.

How was so much cruelty possible for one and so futile for the other?

How could two bodies experience such a deep connection that the very concept of limbic resonance would be insufficient to describe what was not verbalized, touched, or experienced, in inexplicable synchrony, even when one was far from the other?

She was still sitting naked on the bed, in her mind echoed the last words she had spoken to her before leaving, while she gazed at the sheets where minutes before, both had given in for the first time, to a surrender in which their bodies and their souls seemed to fly flush with the satin that covered them.

“This… this is something I can’t let into my life, maybe this was the step we never should have taken. Just maybe…” were the words that devastated her.

Tears streamed down her face as she closed the bedroom door. She still had the smell of her skin on her hands, the soft firmness of her lips on hers, and the ecstasy coursing through her skin.

Why had this orgasm become an absolute dissociation for her instead of a pleasure? She wondered as she tried to hide her face in the crowded hotel elevator.

She regretted her last words, that she had allowed what was truly important, what meant the permanence of a life together, to become something fleeting, momentary, disposable. Into the ephemeral.
