We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the EthDA Testnet!

EthDA is a project focused on providing a seamless Data Availability (DA) network to support the growth of Layer 2 (L2) solutions on Ethereum. It aims to address the challenges of high gas costs and potential congestion on Ethereum Layer 1 (L1) by utilizing EIP-4844 for efficient data posting. EthDA’s approach is Ethereum-native, leveraging zk-rollups and Blob-based DA interfaces. The project enhances scalability, reduces costs, and ensures security, positioning itself uniquely with Ethereum-native solutions for these critical blockchain challenges.

EthDA was conceived with several key considerations in mind. Ethereum is executing a roll-up centric roadmap, with Layer 2 solutions like roll-ups typically relying on Ethereum for Data Availability (DA). As these L2s grow, they require diverse and scaled DA solutions. Multiple DA solutions are being developed to meet this need, including Ethereum’s introduction of data shards and blob transactions based on danksharding (EIP-4844 proto-danksharding). Stand-alone Alt-DA solutions like Celestia, EigenDA, and Avail are also being built. The explosive growth of the L2 ecosystem and its diverse use cases drive a demand for larger scaled DA solutions, spanning technical aspects like validiums, optimiums, volition, L3s, application-specific chains, and generalized roll-ups. This presents a significant opportunity in the realm of Data Availability.

The Crust team consists of experts in blockchain technology and decentralized storage solutions, with significant experience in developing scalable, secure, and efficient systems. Our competencies include deep knowledge of Ethereum and zk-rollup technologies, crucial for implementing Ethereum-native data availability solutions.

In March, EthDA launched Devnet, and now, after three months of testing, the EthDA Testnet is officially live. EthDA is set to fully integrate with Polygon’s CDK framework via various contributions and interfaces, promising further benefits for all Polygon builders and users on their journey to effortless scalability. We share Polygon’s vision of providing aggregated value throughout the ecosystem and are inspired to foster and drive this aggregated growth among all CDK chains. We believe a more mature and robust network can offer a more convenient and user-friendly experience for the Polygon CDK and L2 ecosystems.

Testnet Information

All accompanying tools like Block Explorer and Blob Scan have been upgraded accordingly:

Submitting Data to EthDA Testnet

To submit data to EthDA, users submit blob transactions similar to blob-carrying-transactions introduced by EIP-4844. EthDA blob transactions contain two components: a standard Ethereum regular transaction with blob commitments and one or more blobs of data. Rollups can use zkBlob for DA by posting their data to EthDA and then proving that it was posted on Ethereum. For more information, refer to EthDA’s technical documentation:

Developer Information

If you are a developer looking to test and use the EthDA testnet, you may need the following information:

How to Experience EthDA Testnet

  1. Visit EthDA BlobTx.
  2. Log in using the Imtoken wallet. *Metamask and Coinbase wallets are not recommended as they may fail in subsequent steps.
  3. Interact with the page and add the EthDA Testnet network.

5. Upload text and images, convert them to Blob Data, and send the transaction to complete the conversion.

For testing tokens, please bridge Sepolia $ETH to EthDA Testnet. For moving assets across chains (L1 ↔ EthDA), you will need to use the EthDA Bridge.

EthDA’s Future Development

EthDA’s roadmap includes plans to implement a decentralized network of sequencers where blob data is guaranteed via Data Availability Sampling (DAS) and Blobweave schemes. EthDA will also continue to contribute to Ethereum’s scaling roadmap by innovating around the new concept of blob transactions.

2024 Q1

  • DevNet launch in February, with a workable chain and interfaces, demonstration DApp, BlobScan, and necessary dev docs.

2024 Q2

  • TestNet launch in June, with initial DAS implementation and related flows, full dev docs and SDK; CDK readiness for market promotion.

2024 Q4

  • Full DAS and Staking implementation, benefit sharing contracts, treasury, and governance modules.
  • MainNet launch.

2025

  • Extend data functions and use cases.
  • Develop data query functions such as indexing & GraphQL support.

2026

  • Data programmability beyond GraphQL.
