The stakes for running an agile development & IT operations organization are higher than they have ever been. The confluence of public cloud adoption, the shift towards software-driven business front ends, and the microservice-based re-architecture of applications have placed incredible demands on infrastructure to scale gracefully. Gone are the days when human operators could manually manage this. Operating infrastructure, like many digital services of the past, much be digitized and driven via APIs.

Commonly referred to as “infrastructure as code”, we are fully bought into this wave and expect to see further disruption of traditional IT via more agile, software-based methodologies that can provision/record/audit/manage at scale. This impacts everything from the monitoring layers, to the data layers, to the operations and security layers; it represents a fundamentally different way of thinking about scale.
