A huge part of growth in Cloud computing is being driven by new applications of consumer internet giants like Expedia, Pinterest as well as large enterprises like United Airlines, NY Times interacting and transacting with their customers on their phones and tablets all over the world. Underlying these distributed, always-on applications is a shift in their architecture that’s API/microservices based and the tool chain to develop, test, manage and monitor is changing too.
At CRV, we had a ring side view to this massive shift in computing architectures because of our investments in Kong, the leader in API & microservices management and SignalFx, monitoring system of choice for API-based cloud-native applications. We have also been watching Postman emerge as a collaboration platform for API development & testing.
We were introduced to Abhinav, one of the founders of Postman by the founders of Kong in 2014. Though the company was very early in their evolution, Abhinav impressed us with his vision of how Postman will become central to the entire API development lifecycle. We stayed in touch with him as he built his company in Bangalore and more frequently once he moved to San Francisco to scale Postman.
We have watched the Postman developer community grow over these years and experienced the genuine love for Postman at every POST/CON event that we attended. In just a few years, Postman has emerged as the API development and testing platform with a fast growing community of 7 million developers and 300,000 companies worldwide. And, they are just getting started.
Nearly five years since we met, Abhinav, Ankit and Abhijit, the founders of Postman decided to partner with CRV. We are delighted that we led the company’s series B round of financing and I will be joining the board.
We are looking forward to working with the founders and the rest of the team at Postman as they build one of the next big foundational software companies. We are truly excited for the days ahead!
