It’s been nearly 20 years since Kanye West got into the car accident that changed his life and music forever. Kanye’s jaw was wired shut, and it’s because of that pain that Kanye gave us Through The Wire, a classic first single from what is considered one of the best albums in hip hop history.

This story is such a metaphor for many writers. We go through shit and writing it down becomes our solace, our medium for healing, our way of directing the pain down a different path.

For this week’s call for submission, tell us your “through the wire” moment. What struggles have you endured and lived to write about? Is there one particular struggle or has there been a series of struggles? How has writing helped you overcome, or at least manage, these difficult moments?

Same rules as always:

  • You can submit to this or ANY of our past writing prompts. Just scroll through our previous newsletters. They’ll be marked “Call for Submissions.”
  • If you’re already a writer for CRY, go ahead and submit.
  • Be as creative as you want in your submissions. As long as you stick to the topic, we’ll consider it.
  • Just because you submit doesn’t mean we’ll post. If you haven’t heard back from us in three days, consider that a pass.
