Once this is over

This will change us. It is already doing so.

It’s making us look at ourselves and open our eyes to what is essential. Once this is over, we will have a different view of how society should be structured. We will still complain about left and right, of course; but we will know, deep inside, that no one has the answer to the perfect way of how to run ourselves.

Many of us will stop whining at oh so many things… Not having cash to go out or enjoy ourselves when we didn’t need to, while we insisted on living beyond our means regardless. We will appreciate freedom, that thing that we got for granted. And the funny side of things is that we did it to ourselves: We asked our democratically elected governments to impose restrictions on us. We said: ‘Dear prime minister, leader or president, we need to be taught a lesson. And a very hard one. We’ve been way too naughty, and it is time we appreciate what we give to each other, what we have, and what we take for granted.’

Once this is over, we will enjoy that pint down the pub and that play at the theatre. We will understand that climate change, disease, full-on nuclear war, or being swallowed by the Sun can happen; and we will be defenceless against it.
