Losing Love (and Ice Cream) Through the Mail

I learned the pleasure of exchanging letters as a child.

My grandmother and I, separated by 500 miles, corresponded every month. After her death I found my saved letters at the bottom of her closet. They spanned kindergarten to marriage.

They were never profound. The first was on a crumpled piece of looseleaf paper…
