Safe Is A Feeling
Poem
She cried in bed.
He heard first.
Sound travels
better than words.
She sat up.
Face wet.
“I can’t sleep.”
She was scared.
Eyes closed and
visions appeared.
Footsteps heard
— Not mums or dads
a strangers.
He wanted to get her.
You are safe, I whisper.
But that’s just a feeling
She didn’t feel.
I wrap myself around her
like a weighted blanket.
She, in my arms
our feet touching.
Squeezing her
so she can feel
less alone…
