Disable PIVX’s automint zPIV feature!

Users should choose to mint zPIV, not just have it just happen by default

The default PIVX wallet has a “feature” enabled by default that will take some portion of you wallet’s PIV and convert it to zPIV. To have this on by default is a mistake that the developers should correct, but before it bites you, turn it off. PIVX has documented it here, but here is my take.

Open Preferences from the menu and you should see this window open up. I have circled the offender and the state of the checkbox to avoid autominting.

Make sure that this is UNCHECKED if you want to avoid having zPIV autominted out of you wallet

Minting zPIV is a great feature of PIVX. It allows for private transactions. However, users should choose to mint this coin, not have it just happen by default.

If you have Masternode collateral in the wallet that is unlocked (there are many ways this could happen), this feature will break your Masternode connection.

From the config

Perhaps you are running the binary. If so, simply put the following in your config file.

enablezeromint=0

Getting your PIV back from zPIV

Now let’s say that you, like me, have just been a victim of autominting. To get your PIV back, go to the Privacy tab on the interface and bring up zPIV Control to select the coins to unmint.

Click this button to select your zPIV outputs

In the Pay To: field, simply put in an address that you control.

The catch is that you will have to wait for a couple dozen confirmations before you can get your coin back. Additionally there must be enough in the global supply of denominations to service the unminting (complex, more on this later).
