We recently released Cryptage Origins Beta, a strategy and card trading game powered by the Ethereum Blockchain. It’s the first in the series of games we have planned for the Cryptage universe — a world in the nearer-than-you-expect future where blockchain technology has conquered the world.
For players, the goal of the game is to create a successful blockchain venture, by winning new locations and offices for your company, while gradually employing more developers and consultants, buying more mining equipment and completing different projects, which in turn brings you more funds and experience points.
To help you build your venture in the age of Cryptage, we thought you might appreciate a short introduction to all of the game’s mechanics, along with some sweet tips for leveling up and soaring through the Leaderboard quicker.
So let’s get to it.
Prerequisites
In order to start playing you only need two things — the MetaMask extension and a browser that’s compatible with it, which includes Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Opera and Vivaldi.
Once you have MetaMask installed, you’ll need to create a new account (do save your seed phrase somewhere safe!) and then switch to the Kovan Test Network. As it’s currently in beta, that’s what Cryptage Origins is using at the moment, but we’ll be switching to the Main Ethereum Network when we launch the updated, final version of the game.
First steps
As soon as you setup your MetaMask account and select your in-game nickname, you’ll be welcomed with the game’s main interface and a short introduction tutorial, but we’ll cover the basics here, anyway.
You’ll notice that the interface is divided into four main elements — there are your currently active locations on the left, your active projects on the right, your available cards at the bottom and the people and equipment active within the currently selected location are in the centre of it all. Finally, you can also see your stats at the top of the screen, including your current level, experience points and funds.
All of the things you can obtain and use in the game are available to you in the form of cards, and the cards in Cryptage Origins are divided into six categories:
- Locations — includes cards of different places where you can keep your employees and mining equipment;
- People — includes different levels of developers, as well as team leaders, executives, traders and consultants;
- Projects — includes various tasks and activities that your company can complete in order to bring you experience points and funds;
- Mining — includes different cryptomining compute units, such as CPUs, GPUs and ASICs;
- Power — includes various additional power sources for your locations, like batteries and generators;
- Miscellaneous — includes some very special items and booster cards.
Leveling up
Since you’ll get a few of the basic cards as soon as you log in, your first step will be to use your first location and start your first project. Run your first project a few times and you’ll pretty much immediately jump to Level 2, winning additional cards at the same time.
Progressing through the next few levels will be pretty easy, but things will become interesting soon and you’ll need to start strategizing as to what you should combine at which location to squeeze the most developer and mining points out of your cards. For example, some locations can provide you with a lot of power for mining equipment, while others will have close to none, so you’ll need to arrange your assets wisely.
Another interesting trick in Cryptage Origins is that you’re not the only thing that can level up — your cards can do it, too. So, in case you don’t have room for another GPU in one of your cases or racks, but you have one free, you can try leveling up one of your already active GPUs by stacking your cards, as long as they’re identical. This is something you can do with almost all cards, except very few special ones.
Once you’ve got the hang of things, you can do a first save of your progress so far, by clicking the save button in the top right corner. This will trigger a transaction that will first have your progress confirmed and approved and then saved to the blockchain, adding you to the Leaderboard at the same time.
Getting new cards
You got into the groove, your projects are doing well, you have constantly growing funds and your experience points are going up steadily — what now, you may wonder? Well, time to get more cards and push your venture further towards the top.
There are two ways to do this — by buying randomized card packs or by heading to the marketplace to get the specific cards you want. The first way is rather simple and you maybe already noticed the “Buy card pack” in the top left corner. As soon as you click that button, a transaction will be triggered in MetaMask and all you need to do is confirm it. The pack of 5 cards you won will pop up on the screen pretty much instantly. Oh, and in case you need some kETH for your purchases, feel free to stop by our kETH faucet to get some.
The Marketplace, on the other hand, isn’t available in this beta version of Cryptage Origins. The idea is that you’ll be able to offer your cards at a certain price in Ethereum to other players, as well as buy cards offered by other players, of course. This is something that we’re at the moment wrapping up on our side, so that it’s ready for the Main Ethereum Network launch.
Is there more?
Oh, yes! We are working on more additions to the final version of the game that will be launching on the Main Net. First of all, this includes a complete overhaul of the game’s interface, that will make everything easier on the eyes, less cluttered and much sleeker. You’ll love it.
What’s more, we are also working on Achievements, a system of different missions for players to complete that should help keep the game interesting in later levels where finishing advanced projects and winning enough experience points starts taking a bit longer.
Finally, we would love to hear from you — if there is anything that you think we should include, replace or revisit, you can head on over to our official Cryptage Discord server to talk more at any point in time. There’s pretty much always someone from the team online.
You can also leave a comment down below or catch us up on Twitter, while we’re at it.
