As we become increasingly connected to the internet, we have gradually shifted from conventional offline storage like hard drives and solid state drives to the cloud. Third party companies like Microsoft and Amazon offer premium services to store certain amounts of data in their data centers for their customers. Storing data in the cloud has provided convenience for consumers to access their data anywhere, anytime.

However, this change has opened up new vulnerabilities for malicious individuals to exploit. This is evidenced by the numerous hacks on various cloud computing companies in recent years. One of the highest profile hacks was the Apple iCloud celebrity photo hacks, which resulted in the release of hundreds of private celebrity pictures to the public. The attack occurred because of a vulnerability in the iCloud API which allowed hackers to make unlimited attempts at guessing user passwords and also through targeted phishing attacks. This high profile attack along with many others show a need for an improvement of the current state of cloud storage. One project that is striving towards this goal is Iagon.

What is Iagon?

Iagon is an open source platform that is capable of harnessing the storage capabilities and the processing power of multiple computers over a decentralized Blockchain grid. Blockchain technology is able to provide Iagon with an increased level of security over conventional cloud storage services. This is partly because of innate nature of Blockchain technology. The Blockchain consists of blocks of data hashed together that are chained using previous hashes and the most recent block to maintain consistency throughout the chain. The hash is created from the SHA 256 algorithm, and this algorithm is extremely difficult to crack. The computational power required to break it through brute force far exceeds what is available in the commercial hardware market today. Hence, this provides a layer of security to data storage with Iagon.

Besides that, Iagon also has a secure lake technology that encrypts, slices and distributes data files that deters attackers. In contrast, current cloud storage services uses a data lake architecture which defines a central depository for data files that can be easily accessible by users. A data lake architecture, once hacked, allows hackers to ‘swim’ inside the database and gain access to practically all the files inside. The secure lake technology ‘freezes’ the data lake, using decentralization and encryption to protect the files stored. Apart from the user who has the password to retrieve his data files, no one is able to get the data file as it is split up into many small encrypted portions. This ensures that even when information systems are breached, the data and files in the system cannot be accessed, deleted or modified in any way. This represents an additional layer of security that sets Iagon apart from other cloud storage services.

I believe that Iagon is the next logical step in the cloud storage industry. With its advanced security features, it has the potential to overthrow the current giants in the industry. Consider using Iagon for cloud storage in the future for the highest level of file security.
