Metaverse: The Second Life
The grand vision of the metaverse is to provide a parallel digital universe connected to our physical world through multiple digital technologies.
The ultimate goal of the metaverse is to look and feel like physical reality, allowing your avatar to move around freely, interact with others, and access information within a 3D environment just like in the real world.
Interactions will affect both your own state of being and that of others in the metaverse. This means that the metaverse may offer us the opportunity to work remotely.
By entering a virtual office environment on a regular or drop-in drop-out basis, it might be possible to spend part of our time working interactively and virtually from the comfort of our physical homes.
Cyberspace refers to the collective digital information space within any electronic medium. The terminology has been used to imply that the Internet represents another dimension in which physical laws do not apply, making the online space a world apart or distinct from everyday reality.
The use of “cyber”, meanwhile, has attempted to connote a synonym for virtual or computer networks.
In Second Life, minors aged between 13 and 17 can access the platform, but strict restrictions are in place on what content they can view. The Second Life world is also split into sections with their own assigned maturity level rating similar to movies, including General (for minors), Moderate, and Adult.
However, there are few to no restrictions on content, actions, animations, and businesses within new metaverse projects today that are adult in nature.
Just as communication through mobile phones has not fully replaced the need for people to meet face-to-face, the metaverse is not supposed to be a replacement or substitute for real-life experiences and interactions.
Instead, it aims to help decentralize and distribute new opportunities to more people on the planet as what can be termed “the next best thing” for many people.
Regardless of these epic innovations, there are many other things that revolutionize the way mankind works and sees the world. But, that’s for another blog.
The Series of Second life will continue, and so is our life in both the physical and technical world.
