History

The BAYC (for the sake of convenience, I will refer to the collection this way) was launched or created on April 22, 2021 by anonymous developers that go by the pseudonyms Gargamel, Gordon Goner, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, and No Sass. The responsibility for creating is also being claimed by Yuga Labs.

The start of the club was actually not that pretty. On 23rd of April, one of the creators, Gordon Goner announced on his discord the pre-sale launching, but only few hundred apes were sold during the first week. The reason for the lack of interest was mainly that the owners and nobody else saw the actual NFTs, so nobody knew how it looked like.

On April 30th the revelation happened and the boom became the reality. All the apes were sold during next day, all of them going for 0.08ETH for one.

Because the Club is not even one year old, there is not much of a history left.

What is it?

Same as CryptoPunks, there is only 10 000 NFTs in the club and there will never be more. As CryptoPunks pictures punks in different outfits, the BAYC does the same thing but with apes. Each Bored Ape is unique and with unique outfit or accessories.

How to get one?

The process of getting one of the Apes is absolutely similar to how to get one of the CryptoPunks. So, here is link to our other article about CryptoPunks where is everything detailed and you will find everything you need to know about the purchase there.

Bathroom???

The thing that may differentiate the BAYC from other NFT collection is the Bathroom. After the pre sale period is over, the Bathroom will become available to holders of BAYC NFTs. In there, every member of the club will be able to paint one pixel of the bathroom every 15 minutes.

Bored Ape Kennel Club

This was another thing special for BAYC. It was a offshoot from the original collection. BAKC was a collection of 10 000 Club Dog NFTs that each person that held ape was able to get. You would get the ration one to one, so if you were holding 25 apes you could get 25 Club Dog NFTs. The sale went on for one week and ended on June 25th.

To get the Club Dog NFT you would only had to pay the gas fees. But after the BAKC entered the secondary market a 2.5% royalty fee attached to each sale would kick in. After that, all those gains from the sales go to no-kill animal shelters.

Mutant Ape Serum

If all these features weren’t enough, the authors released something called Mutant Ape serum vials. This is 10 000 vials for each member of the club. You can inject this vile into your BAYC NFT and the serum generates a Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT. There are three tiers of the serum. M1, M2, and Mega Mutant.

Interesting info

Now what makes this so special, because after all the add-ons there is 40 000 different artworks. This is thanks to the specifics of the apes. Each ape has 7 specific features, so if you put that and the power of programmable graphics together, you get number that is sky high.

The specifics are: Background color, Clothes style, Earring, Eyes, Fur, Hat and Mouth.

Data

Since the BAYC hit the market, the number of sales reached 93 000. The BAYC generated over $3 billion dollars in sales. Bored Ape #8585 became officially the most expensive Ape NFT ever, when it got sold for $2.7 million on OpenSea.
