Baidu Launches Blockchain Operation

According to ODaily, it seems that Baidu, a major search company referred to as “China’s Google,” is planning to develop and implement a blockchain named “Xuperchain.”

There are already six applications launched on Xuperchain, including a recently launched photo management application called Totem. Other applications include Baidu Baike, Duyuzhou, Biadu Association, Treasure Box, and Hubert.

Baidu claims that it is superior to other blockchains because it implements a super node capable of parallel processing using multiple cores.

According to the white paper, Xuperchain begins its operation as a route chain, and then divides into multiple parallel side chains.

These parallel chains make it possible to adopt different consensus mechanisms. Baidu named systems that can communicate with side chains that adopt several different consensus mechanisms “stereo networks.”

No Original Cryptocurrency even on the Premise of Commercial Operation

Commercial operation of this chain is done via Baidu’s Blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS). In other words, Baidu intends to provide the blockchain, similar to how Google provides services to others.

On the other hand, Baidu has not made any announcement about cryptocurrencies and tokens about Xuperchain. In Totem, a system called Totem Point is adopted, but it is not a currency that is common throughout the entire blockchain.

Since cryptocurrencies are banned in China, it may be difficult, but Baidu’s future moves may have a big influence on the Chinese cryptocurrency market.
