SoftBank Conducts Demonstration of Mobile Payment Service Utilizing Blockchain!
Major telecommunications provider SoftBank conducted a demonstration on mobile payment services that utilize blockchain.
Successful Demonstration of Mobile Payment Service
Field trials were conducted by TBCASoft, which specializes in blockchain development for carriers, Synchron, specializing in IoT development, and SoftBank. For mobile payment services used in demonstration experiments, “RCS (Rich Communication Service),” which is said to have higher standards than SMS (Short Message Service), and blockchain was used.
In the demonstration experiment, users succeeded in making settlements at shops using mobile devices. In response to the trials, Takeshi Fukuizumi, SoftBank’s Technology Unit IT Services Development Director said, “I think that mobile payment PoC utilizing RCS and blockchain represents values unique to telecommunication carriers. Users will be able to enjoy not only payment services of major brands but also a wide range of payment methods in various ways. We also think that users will be more flexible in making payments when travelling and shopping overseas.”
