I spent 10 days in Asia last month, and it dramatically changed my view of both crypto and the world. I blogged about eight macro thoughts following the trip here.

Near the end of the post I noted that “The bottom line is Asia is the center of the crypto trading universe and that’s where most of the money is being made. So that means that Asia is the center of the crypto universe today.”

I wrote about attending the Asia Blockchain Summit (ABS) in Taipei, and noted that “In addition to the major players like Binance, BitMEX, and eToro, roaming the conference exhibition space at ABS yielded many interesting trading companies like FTX/Alameda Research (and their 3X leveraged token), HXRO (and their 5-minute binary trading game), and Coinflex (and their physically delivered cryptocurrency futures).”

Since coming back from Asia, the buzz around FTX has continued to grow and grow. While I usually don’t do single company conference calls, I think it’s important for the global crypto ecosystem to understand what’s going on in crypto Asia, and that the first killer app of crypto globally, is speculation. And it’s my belief that we’re at the very beginning. I believe that the $1 trillion in trades reported by BitMEX in the last year will be dwarfed by the volumes we’ll be seeing in the coming years. And finally, I believe we will see the emergence of new players in the market, who will innovate, and build massive n ew markets.

At the moment, the new player dominating the buzz is FTX. But what’s driving the buzz? What is FTX planning? What are the problems with futures exchanges today and how is FTX solving for those problems? What innovative products is FTX building or considering?

We’re excited that FTX is participating, but we’re also excited to get different perspectives from both a leading crypto research house as well as a renowned crypto trader.

I finished my Asia post by stating my belief that “It turns out that America’s exceptionalism had a half-life. And China and the rest of Asia is poised to fill the void.” I’m eager to learn more about crypto Asia and the drivers of the next leg of crypto growth.

There will be plenty of time left at the end of the presentations for questions form the audience.
