Grin — Getting Started
Grin is a cryptocurrency offering privacy and blockchain size reduction which are not available with Bitcoin and most alt-coins. Grin is an implementation of Mimblewimble which utilizes cryptography to verify blockchains without having to store all past transactions on the blockchain. Grin is a very new cryptocurrency considering it was launched on January 15th, 2019. Bitcoin was launched on January 3rd, 2009. The current price of the GRIN unit is $0.470809 and 0.00005101 BTC. The all-time high was $10 on January 28, 2019. The price of GRIN has risen 5.49% versus USD and 3.67% versus BTC in the past 24 hours.
The current Market Cap is near $20 million with about $70 million in trading volume in the past 24 hours. There are 42,417,960 GRIN coins and this supply grows through a process called mining.
This post will demonstrate setting up the official Grin node and wallet on a Windows 10 desktop computer. There should only be subtle differences for other operating systems, so most readers should still be able to follow along even if they are using Mac or Linux.
