A tale about an ancient forest under the dark.

synopsis

By word of mouth, a mythical tale passed down on through generations. The story has long remained shrouded in mystery until the band of heroes reached a cabin at the Kariavattom river and met an old blind lady who lives in the cabin for centuries. She started reeling off her story that she kept with her for life.

She opened up by saying that she grew up in the fear of the darkness.

In ancient times, she said, a few of the mad king Kafra’s despised alchemists escaped the massacre at the rocky mountain. Their axile was a perilous but successful one.

The survivors of the Kafra’s tyranny and subsequent infernal destruction of the empire by Magdar embarked on a long journey into a verdant continent east of the red sand desert.

She said the place was covered with a lush jungle, forming a deep dark canopy. The place used to be rife with magical life energy. Under the deep rain forest, the runaway sorcerers learned to harness the delicacy between the forces of life and death, the art of necromancy. Until then, it was in accordance with the law of nature, the great cycle of being.

But one day, Deathkar, then the chief alchemist of the clan, decided to practice a doomed ritual, with the aim of defying death. He engaged in a forbidden experiment of divination from the dead or “the death circle”, as outsiders call them. It was blood magic, using rotting human corpses, dead animals and dragons to invoke the spirit of the deceased.

She said after the bloody ritual, a looming disaster has come to the forest. The voodoo practice has ravaged the forest, disturbing the very balance that maintains the cycle between life and death. The dark magic haunted the forest, leaving all livings in the dark.

When the dark came… the dead can no longer remain dead in the mystic forest. A new army of the dead rose from the ground. Zombies, ghosts and other creatures sprang up from the dead. They swept through the forest and massacred every alchemist alive. These mystic creatures were said to be venomous and adept at stealth. They could easily blend into the shadows. At the vanguard, there were the Dullahans, undead spirit holding his own cutout head firm. Behind him, a tall bone dragon stood tall gazing with an empty red eye. The story says the dragon is actually an undead red dragon from the red sand desert.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she found that the heroes are here to defeat the army of the death, finally.

Given the story, the house of mankind approved the quest into the treacherous forest.
