When it comes to online security, the majority of encountered issues are not at a technical level, but on the fact that most users fail to understand and apply basic security measures.

Here are some tips and tricks to secure your online wallet:

👨🏼‍💻 Apps on Google Play and the App Store

  • Make sure you download the official version of applications
  • Don’t install tons of useless mobile apps
  • Add Two-Factor Authentication to mobile apps whenever it’s possible

✅ Add-ons and cryptocurrency trading

  • Do not download any crypto add-ons
  • Use a specific browser for operations involving cryptocurrencies
  • Select an incognito mode
  • Get a separate PC or smartphone just for crypto trading
  • Download an antivirus and install a firewall.

📲 Identification by SMS

  • Turn off call forwarding to make it impossible for an attacker to access your data
  • When the password is sent in the text, use a two-factor identification software solution.

🔊 Public Wi-Fi

  • Never make crypto transactions over public Wi-Fi, even if you are using a VPN
  • Update your own router firmware regularly.

👯 Sites-clones and phishing

  • Never interact with cryptocurrency-related sites without HTPPS protocol;
  • When using Chrome, customize the extension
  • When you receive messages from resources related to cryptocurrency, copy the link to the browser address field and compare it to the original site address
  • If you receive a suspicious e-mail, close the window and delete the e-mail from your inbox

Now, you know how to protect your online (“hot”) wallet.

Of course, you should keep in mind that most of your crypto assets should NOT be stored online. Consider your online wallet to be your checking account, while your offline wallet is your savings account.

An offline (“cold”) wallet can be a USD key or a piece of paper with your codes written down. But, although cold wallets can’t be hacked… they can get lost ;-)
