“Metaverse is Happening Sooner Than I Thought,” says Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg made a contentious comment about the Metaverse during his appearance on the most listened-to podcast in the world.
Joe Rogan, a comedian, actor, and host of the Joe Rogan Experience, the most-listened-to podcast on the Internet, and Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook and CEO of Meta, have each experienced their fair share of controversy over the past two years.
Therefore, it was certain to be an interesting conversation when the two sat down to record an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. And it was, in fact. Along with talking about the FBI and Facebook’s censorship, they also discussed Zuckerberg’s major undertaking, the Metaverse.
History Repeats Itself…
Just like computers in their early stages, the fact that VR today feels quite primitive is one aspect that many people frequently criticize. The ability to create fully functional virtual reality cities or realistic-looking humans in VR is still a ways off.
While acknowledging this, Zuckerberg argues that the evolution of VR is proceeding in a manner reminiscent of that of PCs. According to him, “gamers and other early adopters” will initially use VR the most.
Zuckerberg believes fitness apps, like the aforementioned Peloton, are the third and final step in the evolution of VR. Once the software and hardware are enhanced, they will be utilized more by mainstream users who want to “socially interact in new ways.”
This is so that people can connect with one another through movement rather than screens or keyboards.
The Upcoming Major Computing Platform
Will the Metaverse therefore resemble a game? Is it a simulation that enables us to unwind and have a good time after work? Or is there more to it? In Mark Zuckerberg’s opinion, the Metaverse will be the “next big computing platform.”
In the Metaverse, there will be VR apps, just like there are apps on our phones. Though Meta executives acknowledged that it might take up to 15 years for the Metaverse to materialize, it is obvious that they have given the idea a lot of thought.
Zuckerberg discussed this at VivaTech the previous year. According to him, VR would be used by people for work, shopping, and socializing in a similar way to how computers and smartphones are now.
Zuckerberg: Individuals Are Already Joining The “Metaverse”
The Metaverse is now. Technically, that is. Many people already spend a significant portion of their lives in virtual reality, even though it is still not as perfect as it was in Ready Player One.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, who stated on the Joe Rogan Experience that the Metaverse is “happening sooner than I thought,” people who purchase virtual reality headsets and spend time in VR are already residing in the Metaverse. Somehow…
He stated the Peloton room bikes would have displays in which people could watch lessons and compete with one another. These users, according to him, are a part of the Metaverse because they interact with one another by “using computer-generated graphics,” he claimed.
