We thought we’d seen it all, but the blockchain space manages to surprise us again.

Roberto Escobar, biological brother of the most notorious kingpin in history, and ex-accountant of the Medellin Cartel has launched a new cryptocurrency ICO — DietBitcoin. It’s even more bizarre than you’d think.

Roberto Escobar, also seen as the ‘brother Fredo’ of the Escobar family, wasn’t included or mentioned even once in late Netflix TV-series Narcos, where two first seasons are dedicated to Pablo and his drug business.

They didn’t even acknowledge his existence, although he has served 11 years in maximum security prison for his role as an accountant in the Medellin Cartel.

Later Roberto sued Netflix for $1 billion.

Funded by Escobar Inc., a hard fork of the Bitcoin network promises to offer a faster and a lighter alternative to Bitcoin.

What does ‘Diet Bitcoin’ even mean? Is it because ‘Diet Coke’ was already taken?

You though all of this was crazy?

Well, he released a 280-page eBook, with around 200 pages chronicling the life of his brother Pablo.

The single chapter devoted to the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is a work of art.

Long story short, Escobar claims he has met the mysterious Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, who he says wanted to partner up with the Escobar family and create a new, better Bitcoin.

He even included a photocopy of Satoshi’s passport as a proof of their meeting.

However, Escobar later discovered that Satoshi was, in fact, a US government agent, and Bitcoin was a CIA creation, an inside job.

He wrote:

The world is going to wake up. The world is going to see that this was created by them. And when they see it, it is too late, and when the CIA founds out that the world knows about this, the CIA is going to sell all of their coins, and they will destroy the value of Bitcoin.

Lucky for us, Roberto’s got a solution.

From cocaine to crypto, they are currently running an ICO with a 96% discount.

Diet Bitcoin (DDX), although being a BTC fork and sharing all of Bitcoin’s technical specifications, is the ‘first cryptocurrency that is not a scam.’

My coin is not a scam. You are free to buy the coin or not buy the coin. I don’t care. You can stick with your worthless coins. Keep the Ethereum, Keep the TRON, keep the Ripple, keep the Bitcoin. You will see what happens. They will all go to zero, almost zero,” he concludes.

All of this looks very similar to dictatorship of Venezuela looking to fund itself through government-issued cryptocurrency.

People genuinely attribute a lot of value to projects which offer nothing unique whatsoever, and it seems Diet Bitcoin fits this bill quite nicely.

It is worth noting that forking the Bitcoin network is nothing new: there is software that lets virtually anybody do so in a matter of a few clicks.

You should be extra careful if you’re thinking of investing in DDX.
