Blockchain — along with the overall cryptocurrency concept — is having a growing effect on the gaming and marketing sectors.

While others grasp at its meaning, Adel de Meyer sees it as plain as the screen on a video console. She is a contributor at The Next Web and Top 100 content and social media marketer. De Meyer is also public relations manager for altcoins and a self-described “blockchain technology evangelist.”

She has co-founded The Crypto Collectors publication covering the latest blockchain technology, gaming and crypto collectibles industry news. She talked about blockchain and the disruption of gaming and marketing with marketing and sales expert Aaron Kilby.

“The Crypto Collectors is your №1 blockchain tech, crypto collectibles and gaming publication,” de Meyer said. “Our mission is to provide the community with accurate, objective and responsible reporting.

“My brother, Oelof de Meyer, and I started this as we are both avid gamers, crypto investors and supporters of blockchain tech,” she said. “We wanted to combine these into something that can bring the community value and education on adopting to blockchain tech.”

She has published 5 blockchain trends influencing the future of social media marketing via The Next Web.

“We launched our website after four months in the making,” de Meyer said. “We’re very excited about this venture.”

Massive Disruption

The Crypto Collectors mesh well with her love for public relations, gaming, tech and marketing. Blockchain adds to de Meyer’s thrill.

“Blockchain technology is disrupting numerous industries,” she said. “As blockchain tech changes the platforms consumers and businesses use and how they network, marketing will go through an upheaval like never before.

“Blockchain gaming is already turning the gaming sector on its head,” de Meyer said. “This is expected to continue as a landslide of enthusiastic players — and investors — discover the multitude of opportunities blockchain tech provides.”

She has posted an article to explain the difference between cryptocurrencies and crypto collectibles to help clear the confusion.

“Let’s just say the next evolution is finally here for all things tech,” de Meyer said. “I am honestly thrilled about the possibilities with blockchain. There’s so much to mention that I can talk all day.”

She said the blockchain effect on global industries isn’t coming. It’s already here.

“We are very much at the beginning phases of disruption in these industries,” de Meyer said. “The biggest impact will be noticed in 2019 when blockchain tech solutions are more stable and established. There are lots of challenges at the moment.”

The Blockgeeks website shows how these functions work. Another site explains the relationship of blockchain tech and the internet.

“Gaming currency is already happening for blockchain-enabled games,” de Meyer said. “Companies like Enjincoin are making it possible to use custom cryptocurrencies for your gaming.

“Not only will blockchain tech change the way information is stored for gamers, it will also change the way actual games are developed,” she said.

Counteracting Hackers

If hackers aren’t eliminated, blockchain will make them work harder.

“Blockchain technology will reduce the risk of hacking for gamers,” de Meyer said. “No more feeling like Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory when his game gets hacked. Just as mobile gaming upended standard games, so too will blockchain gaming transform the mobile gaming sector.

“Gamers are flocking to blockchain-enabled games,” she said. “This is thanks to the ability to be able to pay for everything from crypto-collectibles to game upgrades with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.”

According to de Meyer, even as the value of cryptocurrencies rise and fall, “gamers are still enjoying the freedom that comes from paying for their gaming purchases with a variety of cryptocurrencies.”

There are important things to know about crypto and blockchain gaming for people just getting started.

“With this massive popularity comes a weakness,” de Meyer said. “Unscrupulous actors can ride the coattails of popularity to use these vectors to create an otherwise legitimate seeming operation, all while hiding malicious code in the smart contracts.

“You have to do your research before starting any of these games to make sure they have audited smart contracts,” she said.

De Meyer includes more in her post, Gaming on the Ethereum Blockchain: Audited Smart Contracts and Why This Matters to Blockchain Gamers.

“In the future, gamers creating virtual assets for their gaming characters and trading those assets with other gamers will be possible,” she said. “An entire crypto-enabled community will be able to flourish around blockchain-enabled gaming.

“While smart contracts are a very powerful tool, one should remember that if someone is talented enough, this vector can be used to defraud end users who do not conduct proper due diligence,” de Meyer said. “To prevent this from ever happening to you, ensure that any Ethereum game you play is audited by known contract auditors.”

Bye, Bots

Her other passion is marketing, and de Meyer keeps up to date with these trends, particularly where blockchain tech is going to make the biggest impact.

“Say bye-bye, bots!” she said. “There is a growing interest in verified online identities. With massive bot problems on social media, biz can connect with consumers who had their identities verified via blockchain technology and smart contracts.

“The ability to market to a verified group of individuals and companies you know are already interested in what you’re selling can reduce your marketing efforts,” de Meyer said. “This can increase your return on investment. Marketplaces will grow.”

Fakery will also suffer — she hopes.

“Smart contracts and blockchain technology will also influence the spread of fake content,” de Meyer said. “In the social media networks of the future, the content distribution will be based on verified information. I can’t wait.”

Buckle Down

She advises marketers to be ready to adopt to blockchain’s impact.

“Savvy social media marketers should already be exploring the blockchain landscape to become early adopters of new social networking opportunities,” de Meyer said.

“Research, explore, play the games, understand the technology,” she said. “See what startups are busy developing with blockchain tech so you can see what will be possible soon. Be prepared to tap into those technologies or communities.”

Above all, de Meyer emphasized, don’t waste time.

“The sooner you understand the potential of blockchain-enabled social media marketing, the sooner you can adapt your current business strategies to accommodate this new reality,” she said.

“If you want to be where all the gamers, early adopters and tech professionals’ chatter is happening about blockchain technology, join the Discord and Telegram Messenger communities,” de Meyer said. “Monitor and learn from those conversations.”

Meanwhile, through The Crypto Collectors she keeps her eye on the next collectible and game.

“We are partnering up with bigger companies in the blockchain gaming development sector,” de Meyer said. “We hope to bring more than a publication in the near future. Exciting talks are happening. Stay tuned.

“There are so many awesome blockchain games in pre-sale and just-launched status,” she said.

De Meyer gave a few of her choices: Miss Social Cryptohorse, Axie Infinity, ETH.TOWN, Fair Game and Hedgie.

Go-To Resources

She has an assortment of favorite resources or Twitter accounts to follow to stay up to date with blockchain, marketing and gaming:

“As mentioned before, I am in a lot of Discord and Telegram communities,” de Meyer said. “Most learning I get comes from there.

“Visit us for updates at The Crypto Collectors,” she said. “I learn so much from playing the games and collecting pieces. That influences the thinking and decision making, which helps to get creative with marketing. The games are the easiest way to learn.”
