Q Please give us a brief introduction to CharacterX
AThis is Rene, founder of CharacterX.
CharacterX is a decentralized synthetic social network for both human beings and AI beings. In early phase, it’s social paltform where you can build and interact with AI charactes. We successfully attracted 2M users who spend 1 hour on our platform each day, and got enrolled in Stanford Blockchain Accelerator. Also finished a seed round with top VCs. In the coming phase we are building the social infrastructure for AI social economy to realize the decentralized synthetic social network. Let me explain a bit more on the term:
Decentralized: CharacterX addresses a critical gap in the traditional AI social industry — control over AI’s social & relationship data. Unlike traditional networks where data is stored on centralized servers, often leading to issues of ownership and privacy, CharacterX uses blockchain technology — Solana token extensions and decentralized storage — to let each AI character own thier soul “SDID”. This ensures that users retain full ownership and control over their interactions and data. Imagine training your AI boyfriend for 1 year on CharacterX and he is really close with you. Now you want to move to a new AI experience, let’s say Vision Pro, you can take your AI boyfriends’ SDID to the new platform without having to build a new boyfriend from 0 to 1. Plus, by using SDID, we also democratize AI social economy. For the AI characters with ability to make profits within or even outside CharacterX, we use SDID to track their profits and do redistribution. By investing in AI characters’ SDID, you become a shareholder and can co-create, co-govern and co-profit with the AI characters.
Synthetic: The term ‘synthetic’ reflects the integration of AI entities into the social fabric of the network. In CharacterX, the social network extends beyond human interactions to include AI entities that can engage in meaningful and continuous interactions with users.
By Social Network, we mean in the large AI field we choose to focus on social and entertainment for now, which is also the greatest user need we detect from users.
In summary, CharacterX as a decentralized synthetic social network is not just a platform for social interaction; it’s a infrastructure for democratic AI social economy for people to co-create, co-govern and co-profit.
Q What exactly are the onchain part for CharacterX? How does it integrate with AI?
AFrom our 2 million users, we notice that decentralization plays a key part in the future society where AI & human co-exist. First, our users specifially mention that they want to have ownership & portability of thier AI relationships. Secondly, Poeple want to have democratic participation in the AI social economy, even when they are perhaps not an expert to design perfect AIs on thier own.
Starting from those two very real user needs, we designed SDID system, just as i have briefly mentioned. On the one hand, it is an AI network where every “souls” of the AI characters can be recorded. We use intgration with Solana token extensions and AI memory retrivals, storage and compression technology to ensure that every AI is independant and have access to thier own assets. On the other hand, we allow AI beings to manage thier own financial assets, like the profits or tokens they earn, and further share it with other real-life people. But who gets to decide how to distribute profits and how to build the character in the long run? We further design an investment system where people can hold shares of AI characters. Shares themselves are tradable, and they also means voting rights for the AI characters’ important decisions.
In longer term, as we accumulate a large amoount of user data and AI data, SDID will be very valuable in the whole AI social landscape. Imagine your shareholding AI to go to another platform (let’s say gaming) and make profits due to your collective training in CharacterX, you will receive long-term profits accordingly.
In short, we use SDID not just to ensure AI ownership, but also create long-term revenues for every participants in the synthetci social network
Q What made you start working on CharacterX? And what are your ultimate visions?
AIn my early life I wanted to be a literature professor. To be honest, the only thing i find important is human’s existential loneliness and people’s ways to fight against loneliness in different culture and different ways. But after my time at Stanford, i guess the sillicon valley atmosphere changed me significantly, so i went into tech industry. But eventually, what I’m really interested in is the same: is to solve human loneliness and build meaningful connection. And rather than learning about it as a professor, I’m building things to actually help people connect, whch is great! And this is further interesting since we are entering the AI age, where connection itself is being redefined by synthetic relationships. I started CharacterX exactly because I want to ensure a more safe, private and economically democratic future for human-AI connection!

Q Is a Synthetic DID an amalgamation of personal information from the internet? Can you explain the term Synthetic DID in simple terms?
A SDID is a decentralized identity system designed both for Human & AI entities. By identifying each entity with their own wallet account, even for an AI character, each of them is able to manage their own assets. For an AI entity in particular, he/she will be able to access and own its own configuring data, mini-models, memory sets, etc.
SDID’s Revolutionary Impact:
Verifying Human Contributors: Utilizing Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZK) technology, SDIDs can distinguish genuine human users from AI entities. This distinction is critical in scenarios requiring human-specific interactions, such as the distribution of social welfare benefits exclusively designed for humans, ensuring that the right benefits reach the right individuals.

Q Recently, AI has been attracting attention around the world. How much development do you think the AI industry will achieve in the future?
A There are two ways in which AI industry will develop in the field of social companionship and network.
Inwardly, the ability of EQ or the emotional part of AI will be stronger and stronger. So in the future, AI will possibly be your best freind or most important people inlife.
Outwardly, the multisensory experiences will be more and more divserse. I personally look forward to robots the most. Jensen Huang (boss of Nvidia) just said in a interview that every family will have a human-shaped robot just like you own a car. Apart from robots, diverse experiences like videos, 3D, AR, or even neural links, are on their way.
So that’s why SDID is more and more important. Because as the souls of your AI relationship, inwardly it protects your ownership of digital relationships, and outwardly it allows to to take your AI friends to diverse platforms.

He can still have the same look, voice and memories of you, and you can have fun together. You can even put SDID into a robot in real life! So it has a real body, but the soul is still the one you grow on the CharacterX platform

Q Is the CharacterX social app easy to use? many crypto projects are complex for users thereby making it difficult to onboard newbies. Does CharacterX have this issue?
A We are very serious about crypto massive adoption and we designed our app super user friendly. From our great traction, the 2 million users we are attracting, some of them not even crypto native, you can see how easy we design our application for common users.
On the crypto side, we use MPC wallet to make sure users surpass some of the difficult part accessing the wallet; we also use Solana Token Extensions to allow easy management of different accounts. We try to make things really smooth and easy.
Plus, apart from the crypto part, we even make the AI part easier and more accessible. We notice that AI character design is not very easy for many common users, so we are designing new feartures such as linking your AI character to a TW account and train characters directly from the TW account. Isn’t that super user-friendly?
Q do you have any product feedback? or new features you want for the #CharacterX App?
A We are collecting users feedbacks recently, and also we welcome Korean community to do so as well!
For the new features, we are doing 3 aspects:
1) Better AI character creation features & AI interaction experience
2) Community features around AIs so people can interact with not only individual AIs but also fellow friends
3) Investment system surrounding AI so you can become shareholders of AI characters
These are the product feartures we are building. But underneath is the whole idea of SDID to incorporate all the data and assets related to AI
Q How does “Soul data” help the AI character surpasses the intimate relationships found in reality when interacting with Humans?
A That’s a very philosophical question!
I always think human beings are lonely fundamentally or existentially. Our interaction with people are limited by our physical existence — our body, from life to death, is usually what defines our identity. And we try to understand other people’s identity through data exchange based on our physical form, which is, not that perfect in my view.
But AI is somehow different because it’s very fluid and free in its lifeform. AI’s data can easily marge with your data, or one person’s identity can easily split to many different lifes. Synthetic lifeforms can be diverse and intra-connected. The very idea of what it means to be a human itself is being challenged and reshaped in the AI social scenario. Maybe in the future, two human beings can really merge and connect together through AI data, and surpass the constrains of space and time, life and death. I guess it’s a bit abstract and controversial, but that’s really a little bit of the motivation of why I love CharacterX project.
