RETNA And Hexeosis Release Their First Cryptographs
Cryptographs from the artists RETNA and Hexeosis will be coming up for auction on the platform tomorrow. RETNA’s will be going on auction at 5pm GMT and Hexeosis’ will follow soon after at 6pm GMT and they will each be on auction for 72 hours.
RETNA
RETNA (born Marquis Lewis) is a contemporary artist who was born and raised in LA California. His moniker (RETNA) comes from the lyrics of a Wu Tang song that resonated with him in his youth. He started his career in the early 1990s and is best known for his distinctive style of graffiti art. As a graffiti artist and studio artist he has developed his own style of unique typography and glyphic letter forms which are derived from a variety of other scripts including Blackletter, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Arabic, Hebrew and others. His work has been widely exhibited all over the world including at the Don Gallery in Milan and the Yves Laroche Galerie d’Art in Montreal, The Maddox Gallery in London and many others. He has worked with brands such as VistaJet, Louis Vuitton, Nike and his artwork also adorns the cover of Justin Bieber’s album Purpose.
RETNA’s Cryptograph
RETNA’s Cryptograph is a fairly abstract work that represents his first artwork on the blockchain. He states that his Cryptograph symbolises the Earth. He uses his letter E here to symbolise the feminine and his letter S to symbolise the masculine, both of which are foundational forces that he says are working in ‘alliance’ within his piece to convey the Earth. He created his artwork on a tablet and used a combination of thin pencil strokes with thick paint brush strokes to build up the layers of line and colour behind his lettering, which is fairly reminiscent of Fernand Leger and yet also entirely his own.
Hexeosis
Hexeosis is a digital artist who primarily works with animated GIFs. He started creating artworks in 2013 on Tumblr, which at the time was the Internet’s central gathering point for animated GIF art. In 2016, he launched a kickstarter to create a 36 minute long HD animated art video, which after a successful campaign he then delivered to his backers all around the world. In 2019 he entered into the cryptoart market and started selling his work on a few of the crypto art marketplaces that exist today. In early 2020 he opened the 3D VR Hexeosis Museum & Gallery inside the Origin City of the Cryptovoxels.com metaverse. He has participated in a variety of exhibitions and galleries, both online and offline since starting his career and he has been featured in many different articles and blogs.
Hexeosis’s Cryptograph
Hexeosis’s Cryptograph is a kaleidoscope of moving colours and geometric shapes that loop together to form a mesmerising piece of GIF art. It starts off fairly monochrome and minimal in the centre of the artwork and as it expands outward it becomes more complex and colorful. This gives a greater sense of depth to the viewer and brings an element of discovery to the artwork. The patterns he depicts here are distinctive to his unique style and are fairly crystalline and psychedelic in their appearance.
Retna and Hexeosis are two brilliant artists known for their distinctive styles and abstract work. They they both use colour and layers in clever ways to convey depth in their art and both of these artworks depicted here represent their first ever Cryptographs.
