CryptoKitties gets Canadian with a poutine-themed Fancy Cat
O Canada, eh?
CryptoKitties is headquartered in Vancouver, a city on Canada’s West Coast. We’re not quite the frozen North that Canada is so famous for — it’s more likely to rain than snow on us here — but we still fit a fair share of Canadian stereotypes. We actually do like hockey as much as you’ve heard, you can’t spend a day with us without hearing ‘sorry’ at least once, and ketchup chips are easily found in every corner grocery store. (They’re disgusting, but don’t tell us that. We will politely fight you.)
In honour of our national holiday, we knew we had to make a Fancy that celebrated our particularly Canadian team — in other words, a team that’s from all over the world! Being a country that’s only been called Canada for 150 years means that we don’t have one individual Canadian culture — instead we have a beautiful melting pot of multiculturalism.
To celebrate the diversity of the Canadian spirit, we made a Fancy based on poutine, a dish consisting of french fries scattered with cheese curds and dripping in gravy. A delightful example of how new Canada is, poutine has only been around since the 1950s, but it’s beloved by everyone from coast to coast. It combines American french fries, British cheese curds, and good old Quebecois ingenuity to make a disgusting, delightful, heavy, and unstoppable meal.
Meet Raspoutine — they may not be a wizard, but they are a Catnadian.
“Hey buddy! I’m Raspoutine. I love ketchup chips, maple syrup, and affordable health care. I come from a rich mix of different (cheese) cultures, but I’m sorry to say there are unappealing things aboot me too, like apologizing too much and leaning into stereotypes. Problematic stuff, eh?”
We chased Raspoutine on June 28th, so you would all have yours proudly displayed in time for Canada Day (and because the day of is a national holiday!). The first Raspoutine was discovered by One Stoic Kitty, one of the game’s biggest Fancy chasers — but this is the first 1st he’s ever unlocked himself!
One Stoic Kitty also has one of the few completed Special Cat Codex! And now Raspoutine joins the ranks.
As of posting there’s still time for you to breed a Raspoutine of your own! The limit of 1867, which honours the formation of the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867, could be hit any time.
