At the beginning of the centralized web, issues around the ownership and distribution of art (music, movies, games, etc.) was a central challenge — we all remember the Napster, Kazaa, and the RIAA’s measured response to music piracy.

Blockchain is poised to solve the problem of digital ownership. CryptoKitties was created to showcase this.

To further show how blockchain can impact art, CryptoKitties’ Head of Art, Guile Gaspar, created an original CryptoKitty for The Codex + Rare Art Labs Ethereal Auction. Proceeds will go to a new foundation to support creatives working at the intersection of blockchain technology and art.

Entering the Celestial Cyber Dimension with blockchain art

Guile is responsible for CryptoKitties’ procedural art. His piece, “Celestial Cyber Dimension”, was created exclusively for the event’s charity auction.

From a process that spans the divide between analog and digital, this piece was inspired by the contemporary aesthetics surrounding the subjects of cyberspace, blockchain, and the CryptoKitties universe.

The winning bidder will receive an Exclusive Kitty with custom art. They’ll also receive a custom physical statuette (built by the talented Richard Moore) containing the cat’s ERC-721 token. The bespoke cryptowallet has a small screen that offers a preview of the piece’s contents.

This piece is on display at the Christie Auction House in NYC.

The Ethereal Summit is now live; the event concludes with the auction on May 12th, at 7:00PM EST. Interested bidders can participate online through the Ethereal Summit’s third party auction platform, and pre-bidding has already begun. The bidding will be in US dollars, but once the item is won, the buyer can pay in ETH, BTC, or USD.
