Honu the charity CryptoKitty is making waves

Entrepreneurs and organizations around the world are exploring ways to use blockchain technology to create social impact. CryptoKitties is committed to exploring how technology can create global good. It’s why we’re officially launching the Kitties for Good project, and we have plans to take those Kitties big places. We tested the waters with Celestial Cyber Dimension, the Kitty that raised $140,000 for a charity supporting the intersection of blockchain and art. We also saw our community raise $15,052.91 USD for the Seattle Children’s Hospital through the Kitties For A Cause.

And now? Our first official Kitty for Good has been released into the wild!

Crypto and charity are a natural fit

We partnered with Ocean Elders and ACTAI Global to create an exclusive CryptoKitty, which is now being auctioned off with funds designated to save our oceans. You’ll notice that Honu is different from any other Exclusive Cat we’ve made to date. Honu has their own website, which is hosting an ascending auction from now until July 18th! We wanted to make sure Honu’s message was heard loud and clear, and that Honu can easily reach people in new communities.

This is the pilot of Kitties for Good, and we’re excited to see what happens when the world of conservationists and early adopters come together for social good. This cat-in-a-coal-mine is helping us test the waters of how to use Kitties to impact the world in positive ways. The future is meow, and cats are a part of the change.

• Funds support Operation Jairo and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
• They’re working on increased conservation patrol of key sea turtle nesting sites in Antigua and Barbuda.
• A portion of the funds will go to Unite BVI.
• They’ll help ensure the beaches of the British Virgin Islands remain a safe haven for the hatching of sea turtles.

Honu was unveiled yesterday at the Blockchain Summit, hosted by Richard Branson. The event brings together government and conservation and blockchain leaders to build partnerships and products for the greater good.
