How’s the community feline about Fancies?

We ran a poll to find out how the community feels about Fancy Cats, and how the Kitties should change moving forward. The results are out and your voice is heard — we didn’t tease a Fancy this week, and we’re doing a big rethink about how we move forward with Fancies!

The poll was really helpful, but even better were the comments and conversation that followed on Twitter.

The community’s response was that the current situation isn’t ideal, but there are lots of directions we could explore to help make Fancies really earn their place. A lot of people enjoy the limits, because it makes them feel special, but unfortunately, it leads to quick mass breeding. It also means the traits become expensive for a brief period, and then plummet once the limit is reached. We’re exploring possible solutions, as we understand this isn’t ideal.

The community had some interesting fixes. Instead of releasing hints as we’ve done so far, someone suggested a puzzle hint that would be harder to solve. That way, people would have to put a lot of effort into figuring out the trait combination they needed. We could also try going back to silent releases, though that left Fancies sitting undiscovered for weeks, if not months. Something that everyone seemed to agree on was that the hints were coming out way too fast; if you’re in the wrong time zone, you wake up and it’s all over! So we’re going to see about spreading the hints out.

One comment that we were pleased to see (because we’re already working on the fix!) was that the tropical Fancy didn’t feel like it was on-theme, and they wanted to see more cohesion for what the Fancies mean. Bridging the narrative around the cats is a big priority for us; we’re excited to tease you all with the knowledge that something big is coming, and it’ll be out in the next month or so. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked!

And please, keep the feedback coming. We want to make this game as fun as possible for all our players, and that means hearing from you about what gets your goat as much as what makes your kitten purr.
