We like to give you the cat-down on where we get ideas for our Fancy Cats, and usually those stories have to do with a holiday, or a feature release, something like that. But Berry has a very special story…

Mack Flavelle, one of our co-founders, is Dad to two awesome kids, who are almost as CryptoKitty-crazy as he is. Their new version of bedtime stories involves the two kiddos coming up with their own ideas for Fancy Cats, from skull Kitty to volcano Kitty. It was Georgia, who’s eight years old, who came up with the idea for a cat wearing a big fruit hat.

As soon as she had the idea, she was in love. Fruit Hat Kitty just had to be a thing! Mack brought the idea to the team, and thanks to the wonderful powers of Guile (and the naming chops of Bryce), Berry was born.

Now, here’s where it gets especially heart-string-y. Mack recently lost his beloved grandmother, Sharon. When he came in to work after the funeral, Berry was waiting for him. We hoped the Kitty would lift his spirits a little, but we could never have predicted… Somehow, that cat looked just like his grandmother!

Okay, maybe not the snaggletooth. But the momo for sure, and that bright smile…

Grandma Sharon and Commander

During our YouTube Weekly Roundup, Mack mentioned how touched he would be if someone named their Berry Sharon. And guess what?

You did. ❤

Olde Kittye Shelter named not one, not two, but all THREE of his Berrys after the late, great, much-beloved Sharon, while kittyhats.co | Axie Infinity named one of theirs Sharon, too.

Thank you both. It means the world to Mack, and it’s so awesome to know that the community is so kind, thoughtful, and just down-right tooth-meltingly sweet. If you named your ball of fluff Sharon and we missed shouting out to you, let us know in the comments!
