It isn’t easy being a Christmas cat in a pumpkin spice world.
Christmas only comes once a year, but I’m a treat all 365 days. I’m SantaClaws, after all. When I’m not designing a new mechanized toy mouse or inventing the purrfect catnip blend (my secret ingredient is a dash of cinnamon!), you can find me curled up in front of a roaring fire, sipping catmint tea and practicing the best pitch for my world-famous purr.
Except a roaring fire isn’t quite as much of a treat in the middle of July, and no one wants to hear my harmonies on God Rest Ye Purry Gentlefriends on a crisp September morning. Kermit might have thought it was hard being green, but he’s never tried being green and red and at a Thanksgiving dinner!
Last week? I was invited to a friend’s house, and there was no ribbon. Not even the little piece at the end that’s glued to the roll and you can kind of bat around in a pinch. When I asked them about it they just looked confused and offered me a tiny box to sit in. A tiny box!
…I just realized that by telling you that cinnamon is my secret ingredient it stops being my secret ingredient…
Obviously, I sat in the tiny box, and it was fantastic, and I thanked them and gave them a box of sugar cookies that I had in my bag. But how much more fantastic would that box have been it had been covered by snowflakes and shiny silver paper and little bells?
Amiright?
That’s why I’ve decided to start a petition.
Let’s write to our congresspeople, senators, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Peers of the Sovereign, and every other political representative we can think of, and demand as politely as possible that Christmas be made a legal holiday 364 days a year!
(Obviously, the final day should be reserved for Boxing Day, because everyone needs a break the day after Christmas. And without Leap Days, what would be the point of February?)
