Your Guide to Set Challenges and Badges

The what, why, and how behind CryptoKitties’ latest feature

Our new Set Challenges task players with breeding groups of six Kitties based on a specific theme and rewards them for their prowess.

We know you’re rarin’ to get busy, so here’s a quick rundown of how it works.

Set Challenges and Badges: What and Why?

Sets let players prove their breeding skills. Each Set has six Pawsitions, and each Pawsition requires a Kitty with specific Cattributes to fill it. To finish a Set, players can either buy or breed the six Kitties they need. Completing a Set wins you a flashy Badge to spice up your profile.

Set Challenges are the game’s first (official) achievement-based activity. Although being first to breed a certain trait or discover a new Fancy Cat bestow serious bragging rights, they require deep fluency in the game and often a significant investment of ETH.

Set Challenges, on the other paw, are more approachable. Players can attempt a simple Set like Nubbins, or if they’re confident in their breeding skills and have ETH to spare, a tougher one like Scaredy Cats.

These challenges add a gamified element to CryptoKitties, a social achievement, and, most importantly, another fun way to engage with Kitties.

How do I get started with Set Challenges?

Start with an easy Set Challenge like Nubbins, a bare-bottomed crew of tailless Kitties.

First, go to the Collections tab on your profile page and select the Nubbins Set. Click an empty Pawsition and it’ll automatically search your collection for any Kitties that fit.

If you have one, great! You’ve got a head start.

If you don’t, the window will automatically show you Kitties currently for sale in the Marketplace that meet Pawsition requirements. Be sure to snatch them up before someone else does!

Once you’ve checked your collection and the Marketplace, you’ll have to breed Kitties to fill any remaining Pawsitions. This is where the challenge begins.

Nubbins is a pretty simple Set, so each Kitty only needs one specific Cattribute to fill a Pawsition. In a more difficult Set like Scaredy Cats, however, each cat may need five, or even six, specific traits to fill a Pawsition.

Old cats, new tricks

With the launch of Set Challenges, Kitties that have Cattributes required for Pawsitions gain new value for selling and breeding — even cats that were previously unremarkable. So scour your collection for Kitties that have traits required by Set Challenges. Even if they don’t meet the Pawsition themselves, by breeding them with Kitties that have other required traits you may just breed a cat that does.
