Crypto Law Review continues to grow — fast! In less than one year, we’ve been honored to have more than 500 subscribers and continue to host hundreds of unique daily visitors.
And, we’re only getting started.
Today, we’re excited to welcome John D. Haskell to the editorial board!
As co-editor of the CLR — along with Andrea Leiter and CleanApp Foundation — John has a critical job. Among other things, he is responsible for keeping our analytical blades razor sharp.
There are few people in the world who are better equipped for this task.
Haskell in Brief
John is one of the world’s foremost governance thinkers.
A prolific and influential scholar, Haskell’s most recent books have opened entirely new horizons in humanity’s search for order.
In his monograph, Haskell argues that political theology might offer international legal actors new ways for pursuing a politics of truth. As we stand at new intersections of “law” & “truth,” we need more voices like these to keep all of us honest.
In 2015, Haskell also co-edited the Research Handbook on Political Economy & Law, a compendium of the world’s top 30 critical and radical legal research streams.
The key takeaway from the Research Handbook on Political Economy & Law is that one cannot understand money & markets without understanding plural organizational lawgics.
As Haskell says:
“Law structures and defines competing market forms and social relations — often in complex and subconscious ways. The only way to decrypt these lawgics is to audit them over long historical spans, from multiple angles of attack.”

As he joins the CLR board, Haskell brings way more than ‘just’ deep theory.
He is also an indefatigable institution-builder, helping to set up law + policy collaboratories all over the world, from Asia, to the Gulf, to Europe, and North America.
He is an A+ critical thinker with a large global network.
Haskell’s background gives him maximum freedom to dissect, reconfigure, and optimize legacy legal forms, processes, and institutions.
At the University of Manchester, his tasks include co-directing the Manchester International Law Centre (MILC), the Law and Money Initiative (LMI), and Law and Technology Initiative (LATI). It also includes his longstanding collaboration with the Institute for Global Law & Policy (IGLP).
Each of these represents a decentralized peer node in broader global networks of knowledge production — which John studies and builds for the proverbial lulz.
More Voices = More Value
The crypto community doesn’t care about titles or formal affiliations. It cares about vision and deliverables.
So too for Crypto Law Review.
For us, crypto is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to understand how law structures society (and the other way around) in direct and palpable ways. Not in some pedantic sense; but with a much broader strategic vision of truly decentralized — and thus, far more secure — crypto legal forms.
Haskell will help diversify our coverage even more, to include:

Law & Politics?
Haskell’s normative commitments are well established and highly principled. The whole arc of his scholarship and career to date has been to increase access to justice — in all of its forms.

A politics of truth is a commitment to a politics of broad-based participation in the actual circuits of global governance. That’s not a Left agenda, nor a Right agenda. It’s the most secure agenda.
