SNARKs (Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge) are cryptographic proofs that allow a prover to prove the correctness of a computation to a verifier, without having to reveal the data used in the computation. This means that the verifier can trust the result of the computation, without knowing the underlying data. This is important for blockchains, as it allows for a trustless and secure form of verifying transactions.

STARKs (Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge) are similar to SNARKs, but with the additional benefit of being able to generate proofs much faster. This makes them better suited for blockchain applications, as it allows for faster verification of transactions. Additionally, STARKs are also more transparent than SNARKs, as the verifier can view the proof and verify it.
