Tether is a cryptocurrency token, cryptofiat hybrid, issued on the Bitcoin blockchain via the Omni Layer Protocol by Tether Limited in November 2015 to facilitate the transfer of national currencies. Its symbol is ₮ and ticker is USDT. Its price is tethered to the value of fiat currencies. USD and EUR are presently used and soon JPY will be included. The first one is most common.
The price of Tether slightly changes and may stay the same for quite a long period. That is why it may be called a special crypto asset sometimes considered as an odd one. Though needed for other reasons. Firstly, it allows speedy transactions. Secondly, there are no fees between Tether wallets. Finally, its price is much more stable than that of any cryptocurrency. This may help when exchanging crypto assets whose prices are volatile and may sometimes grade the benefit of a purchase.
