This is the Unfortunate Reality of Cryptocurrency
About 4 or 5 years ago, I was playing around with crypto as sort of a novelty. I think I had a Coinbase account, pretty much right away, but at that time, there were actually thriving markets in which you would find people looking to buy or trade crypto in exchange for cash or valuables. You would actually meet, face to face, to do blockchain transactions.
Does anyone remember what that website was called? Like, localbitcoins or something?
This is also when escrow and multi-sig transactions were becoming very proven and trustworthy systems, in what was otherwise the wild West. Of course, it’s also nearly the peak of the Darkweb markets. Or maybe they are even bigger, now.
By 2017, just as the big bubble was beginning, I had no idea that crypto was something to invest in. I knew people had made money from buying Bitcoin when it was a few dollars, but that was so far out of my mind, that I hardly even noticed the prices going up. Or I noticed, but I didn’t think anything of it.
I think it was probably a headline that finally pointed out what was right in front of me.
I mean, I just thought it was fun and interesting. I suppose the fact that you could read reviews about LSD like it was Amazon, was a bit entertaining, as well.
