Wow… really! What an overwhelming opening ceremony at COVE…

D-day has finally arrived, the three months of expectations and preparation were about to be concluded and the opening ceremony was about to kick start the work at the host site (“the client”). As CSC CAN1 states — this is the first team to Canada ever, therefore (we were told) there is a great interest in the local community about our mission… so we were prepared for that, but we were underestimating the “interest” — it was really a great and overwhelming experience.

The A-Team

The ceremony took place at the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE). Right after we jumped out of the taxi we were approached by local journalists and photographers who were interested to hear about CSC in general and our specific mission to Halifax as well as to take pictures of us.

DOT opened the event and keynote speakers started their respective speeches. The first one to welcome us was the Honourable Stephen McNeil (Premier of Nova Scotia) followed by Mr. Michael (Mike) John Savage the Mayor of Halifax. Both gave so warm and welcoming speeches and expressed their appreciation for our mission for the community of Nova Scotia.

The four hosts gave their speech as well — followed by a short introduction of the team they will work with. Our Team was accompanied by IORE/COVE lead.

During the day, I must admit, it felt like being a Rock-Star… being photographed and approached by so many people who were interested in CSC and my mission — wow…

When the opening ceremony was concluded our host took us for a study trip in the region to get a tangible feeling of the Ocean Industry which will be our main subject for the next four weeks…

Now it is time to deliver and to give back to those wonderful people of Halifax and Nova Scotia, who made this day so special for me and for my colleagues.

More to come… so stay tuned :-)

Best regards,

Ilan Menachem
