Hey there, congrats on clearing one of the most prestigious exams. My aim in this article is to share my life as a student of CSE branch of IIT Guwahati. The campus is simply amazing, there is no doubt about that. Surrounded by lush green hills, away from the hustle of the city, the campus really provides a peaceful environment.
We’ve got a personal View Point in the campus where you can go in the morning hours to see the entire campus along with a sunrise.
Alcheringa
Alcheringa, popularly known as “Alcher”, is the annual cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. Since its inception in 1996, Alcher has served as a pioneer of art & culture for the youth.
Why IITG CSE?
The CSE department in IIT, in particular, offers some of the best facilities to its students.
Labs:
When the student enters his second year, he is assigned a PC in the air conditioned department labs for 24 hour use. These PC’s come with high speed internet connection. So they are really good for a night out for project/assignment work with a filled bag of snacks.
Something that I’d never had before joining this institute was a mentor. One who would show me way, teach me, someone I could call anytime in times of confusion and depression. The senior interaction in CSE at IITG is one of its kind. Seniors take initiative to make the freshers comfortable with the college life and get them started with programming. I can explain the involvement of seniors in the best way possible in the next and most important section.
CSEA
The Computer Science and Engineering Association is a student body under the guidance of Professors which works for the welfare of students of CSE department and also anyone who has thirst for knowledge.
I have been a member of CSEA for more than an year and I am proud to be part of everything that that we organize.
Mentorship Program
The mentorship program is one of its kind, aimed to provide a more experienced guide for a student in campus. Every student in the department is alloted a mentor with whom he interacts throughout the course of his stay at the campus. To further promote interaction, Mentorship sessions are organised. The mentor helps the student in any issues or doubts from academics and career to extracurriculars.
Lecture Series and Competitions
CSEA conducts series of lectures to teach from basic programming to web development. In addition to this there are various competitions with prizes to encourage students to develop interest in competitive coding.
Talks
The association has even made it possible for the students to interact with the alumni who share their life experience after college.
Then there are talks with seniors who share their hands on experience in getting the best placement and internships.
Events
The last and best of all when you join the institute, you will be greeted with freshers party and orientations all to break the ice and make you comfortable with the campus and seniors.
On a personal note, IIT Guwahati, in my 2 years till now has never made me feel any less than a part of a family. And if you decide to join this institute in our department of Computer Science, you will find me here for any help that you need. Next in line is the big reveal that I know you all have been waiting for.

Life at IITG is full of fun and excitement and at the end of this amazing journey awaits your dream package!!
We have over 200 companies visit our campus for placement and we boast of having over 90% placement in BTech with an average placement package of about 24l/annum. If that wasn’t enough there are innumerable internship opportunities both in India and abroad. We also have MOUs with the best colleges in the world and to top it of, the icing on the cake are the varied startups that our graduates have built from the campus itself!!
