After the Civil War Americans were able to live in a country with a diverse national and religious background as long as the economy was good and stable. Racism always came out during bad economic times — we saw the worst of this during the Great Depression. Today we are seeing the signs of a depression that could become more severe than what we experienced during the 1930's. The way we can detect this is the fact that the racism we are witnessing is already in many ways more severe.

During the Great Depression the discrimination was based on ethnicity and religious orientation. Now people are being discriminated against not only for those two reasons but also for age, medical conditions, sexual preference, along with their educational and financial status. If this extremely idealistic level of discrimination does not end in America — we will witness the end of America itself. When this happens then none of us will be able to get by because we will no longer have the thing we shifted all of our values to — money.
