Eww!!
Turning a yucky situation into a blessing.
I came out of my first real estate shoot elated. It was just a one bedroom apartment but I spent hours agonizing over the photographs, hoping to impress my client. It was a beautifully staged home and I wanted to do it justice in my images.
I breathed a huge sigh of relief upon receiving very positive feedback and my 2nd listing. “Yay, I’m on a roll!” I thought, getting cocky. “I’ve totally got this. Just another one bedroom apartment. What could possibly go wrong?”
The moment I stepped through the door, I learned my first lesson in real estate photography. One person’s “clean and ready for photography” home is another person’s “pigsty.”
Where’s the blessing in that, you might ask? Other than the challenge? A lovely set of before and after photos for my portfolio that will forever demonstrate to future clients the need for professional real estate photography (and home staging).
- The Bedroom — Nope. Just nope. I can barely make my own bed as is! You want me to make a stranger’s bed?! Nah, let’s toss the quilt on it and call it a day!
2. The Living Room — What in the world is that blue thing on the floor next to the television? That is still bugging me so if you know, please share!
3. The Kitchen — OK. Why do you need 3 dishtowels all at once?! Also, you have cabinets! Use them! What’s with the china on top of the microwave?
So, in conclusion, real estate photography can be exciting, too!
