Five Ways to Fight Fascism
This week marks one year of the Biden presidency (and one year since Trump was President.) While I think things are going better with Trump out of power, I don’t think they’re going especially well. Much of the Biden agenda is dead, voting rights is a debacle, and Omicron continues to wreak havoc on us all. Meanwhile, the Right continues to build power and organize to overturn the results of any election they don’t like — all in plain sight. The fascist creep continues.
None of this is what we wanted or what we voted for. So what can we do? As part of my promise to you all that this year I’d offer more solutions, here are five practical things you can do right now to fight against fascism and for a better America. Most of these suggestions, much like the problems I outlined a few weeks ago, are local.
Document and track far-right activity in your community. I know from experience that a lot of folks have this information in their heads but I don’t see many efforts to write it down and make it publicly available for reporters and activists. Keeping a record can be extremely useful. Organize a small group of local citizens to document whatever the far-right is doing in your neck of the woods. What elected officials and candidates are far-right? What actions are they taking in public meetings, in the schools, what are they saying on social media? Over time you can build a…
